Handheld Barcode Scanners

Handheld barcode scanners are the most common form of bar code scanner and are used in the massive majority of retail outlets. Despite using stationary scanners, (stationary scanners are wall or table mounted barcode scanners where the barcode has to be passed beside or underneath) supermarkets also use handheld barcode scanners for products that are too bulky to go onto the conveyor belt or other irregular items.

A handheld barcode scanner is made up of a handle, the head which contains the light source and a trigger. The trigger activates the light source for a temporary period of time which is used to scan the barcode.
